Lajee General Assembly Elects New Administrative Board and Consultant Committee

Lajee’s General Assembly (LGA) elected 9 members for the administrative board on Friday Dec. 7th. Five of the new members are from the generation of new members (19-23 years old).

After announcing the result of the election, the observers designated by the PA NGOs department commented, “Through this election, Lajee has assured that it is really distinguished…to elect five young leaders (3 males and 2 females) is very promising.” Issa Qaraqia’, a Palestinian legislative member, who attended the election and led the election committee and voting process said, “Lajee Center has not only conducted periodic and genuine elections, it has also ensured in practice the new generation’s right to participate in building and leading the hoped civil society.”

Two months before the election LGA discussed the annual administrative and financial reports and commented upon and ratified them. It then ran several meetings aimed at putting together and finalizing the 2008 – 2009 general plan.

LGA also amended Lajee by-laws; particularly the provisions regulating the position of the international volunteers work with Lajee. In order to meet the Palestinian relevant law and regulations limiting the membership of A B (????) only to Palestinian residents and to better organize our volunteers, LGA created a new body and gave it the name Lajee Consultant Committee (LCC). Through this new group Lajee will nominate, designate and work with International Volunteers.

On Thursday Dec. 13th, the new elected board of Lajee Center convened its first meeting and distributed the positions among members.

The elected Administrative Board members are:

Faris Malish – New building Refurbishment Coordinator
