On Friday, May 2, Lajee Center celebrated the opening of its new Activities Hall. The refurbishment of this hall was funded by the Caritas Switzerland-Luxemburg through the Pontifical Mission. The building in which the new Activities Hall is housed is located approximately 100 meters from our previous rented library and office. It allows Lajee to have more space in which to hold our dance practices, language and arts classes, and other activities. The purchase of the building has been generously supported by Fabrizio Galimberti and other international friends and NGOs. It will provide Lajee Center with long term organizational security.
The opening was a celebration of our growth and our wonderful children’s accomplishments. More than 250 people attended the opening, including children young and old, Lajee volunteers, parents and community members, and representatives from the Pontifical Mission (PM), Mr. Maher Turjman, PM Director, and Ms. Rose Karborani, PM Projects Manager. Our dabka popular dance troupe performed with its usual panache, and two members of our New Generation entertained as clowns. Children enjoyed refreshments, face-painting, and other activities. Community members were proud to visit the new home of this important local institution.
Lajee Center is excited about completing renovations in the new building in the coming months, as we approach our busiest season of the year.
